Our Story
The members of Free Shrugs Improv began performing improvisational comedy in 2002 as Improv Thing. They started by providing entertainment at church parties and other social functions. “We saw a need for family-friendly entertainment options in our community,” explains founding member Brian Dumont. “Since nobody else was doing it, we decided we would.”
In 2014 they reformed as Free Shrugs Improv and today they host regular open-to-the-public shows for a general audience of all ages. Brian Dumont along with Chris Dennis, Rachel Whittaker, Larry Moshkosky and Cassie Davis met at Mount Hope Church in Lansing, Michigan and each have decades of theater experience. Their presentation is an interactive series of skits and games billed as “Clean Comedy.”
“It’s kind of like that TV show ‘Whose Line Is It Anyway?’” said Dumont. “…except we keep it clean. It’s extremely difficult to visit a comedy club these days or even go to the movies without being exposed to inappropriate content. We want to provide something you can bring your kids and your grandparents to so we can all laugh together without being offended.”

Sometimes it is better to be nice than right
Brian is a big part of the Free Shrugs Improv comedy team, bringing his unique brand of clean comedy improv to the stage. With a background in radio, Brian is skilled in creating hilarious scenarios and sketches that keep the audience in stitches. He’s also a huge fan of Transformers toys, and loves to try to incorporate them into the show. Plus, Brian is always full of energy and enthusiasm that really brings the show to life. Chris Dennis is a seasoned improv actor with more experience than a video game character with cheat codes. He co-founded the Free Shrugs Improv troupe, which provides clean and family-friendly comedy that’s funnier than a Wookiee trying to play chess.
When he’s not making people laugh on stage, Chris can be found immersed in his favorite video games, proving that he can button mash with the best of them. He’s also a huge Star Wars fan and knows the entire saga better than Yoda knows the Force.
Chris’s quick wit and hilarious antics are matched only by his love for comedy and entertainment. He’s dedicated to providing audiences with a side-splitting, knee-slapping, and all-around unforgettable experience every time he steps on stage with Free Shrugs Improv.

Larry Moshkosky was born in a small town outside of Los Angeles called Lansing Michigan. Raised by hard working parents, he quickly learned ways to avoid work and took to the science of stink bombs in neighbors mailboxes and strapping bottle rockets to his sisters Barbie dolls. The latter he referred to as a “Barbie-Q.” As the youngest brother to 5 older sisters, he learned it was possible to give family members PTSD and that he couldn’t outrun his sisters.
After surviving a traumatic experience he later learned was called “high school,” he found a youth group that welcomed people with dyslexia and the ability to say dumb stuff on a regular basis. It was here that he would form the eccentric relationships with the people later known as Free Shrugs.
Larry has 3 wonderful children and is married to a gorgeous blonde that looks so much younger than him, it has to be true. She is smart, pretty, caring, generous and is talking too fast for me to type everything she is telling me to write. But, such is the life of the legend called “Larry.”

When Rachel isn’t making people laugh hysterically along with the Free Shrugs crew, she is probably busy binge watching a tv show. Her all-time favorite invention is the DVR. Although that is interfering with her current obsession which is trying not to sit so much. Rachel loves to travel whether for work, play or to do more improv! She has two nieces, and when spending time with them practices her many different ‘voices’.

Cassie Davis is a comedic force to be reckoned with, and has been bringing the laughs to the stage for over a decade. As a core member of the Free Shrugs Improv troupe for 9 years, she’s become a true master of the art of improv comedy.
When she’s not cracking jokes or giving her students art lessons they’ll never forget, Cassie loves spending time with her husband, Jacob, and their two kids. Her family is her greatest source of inspiration and her biggest fans, always cheering her on and laughing at her jokes (even when they’re not that funny).
Cassie’s performances are a true testament to her dedication and hard work. With a quick wit and a knack for improvisation, she’s able to create unforgettable characters and hilarious situations that keep audiences coming back for more.
Whether she’s teaching her students the finer points of drawing, or making people laugh until they cry on stage with Free Shrugs Improv, Cassie Davis is a true force to be reckoned with, and a comedic talent that’s impossible to ignore.
